The intents of the "San Joaquin Valley Climate Resilience Center: Informing Equitable Climate Outcomes through Collaborative and Interdisciplinary Science" project is meant to assess localized variability of heat and air quality under different climate and land-use scenarios. The project will also explore the interactions between climate, urban ecosystems, and nonbiogenic air pollutants, as well as identify, analyze, and compare various solutions for addressing climate and environmental risks.
The anticipated outcomes of this project include estimates of climate extremes at geographical and temporal scales pertinent to communities in the San Joaquin Valley, improved understanding of soil-atmosphere interactions and their effect on air quality and local temperatures, scientific support for ecological and nature-based climate solutions, and a decision-support framework for equitably assessing and addressing climate-induced impacts.
The geographic area of focus includes the San Joaquin Valley (with emphasis on Stockton)
